The pro-life movement has always been motivated by love – love for life, love for the Lord, love for moms and love for babies. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.” 1 John 4:11,12 Our work is saturated with love. It begins with the love God has for us. The Bible tells us that God is love (1 John 4:8). It is his character. Because we are loved, we can love others. His love enables us to love the mothers we serve well. As recipients of God’s perfect love, we are vessels pouring out his love to those that we serve. His love is perfected in us by his Holy Spirit. God has called us to love the women we serve. The Bible gives us a clear definition of love. “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.” –1 Corinthians 13:4-8 God’s love for us enables us to treat others with the respect and dignity they deserve as people created in the image of God. We are patient and kind with the women we serve, understanding they and their babies are precious to God. We do not insist on our way, but rather listen to their hearts and speak to them with kindness and patience. We are not angry or resentful, regardless of their choices or their treatment of us.
